From playwright Lalé Shafaghi:
WATER, WATER, EVERYWHERE
or, "Cast Down Your Bucket Where You Are!"
A 10-minute Play Competition
Where: Amnesia.
When: 9 p.m., Sunday October 15, 2006.
What: Six teams of two write and perform 10-minute plays. The teams will meet in a head-to-head competition judged by journalist Hiya Swanhuyser, playwright Lalé Shafaghi, and showman Ben Flax. Prizes will be awarded in multiple categories. The local hero Jon Wolanske of Killing My Lobster fame will guide us through the competition as the local genius Rob Reich will play instant live soundtracks to the short plays with his trusty accordion. And after we decide who are the winners and who are losers, the amazing new Les Croque Notes will play music into the wee hours of last-call oclock. All proceeds benefit 826 Valencia.
TO ENTER:
1) Find a teammate.
2) Return the questionnaire (below) by Sunday September 3rd to:
tenminutecompetition@yahoo.com
THE RULES:
1) The six teams of two that will go on to write and perform their original 10 minute plays will be notified by Sunday September 10th(this is one week after the deadline to return questionnaire). At that time we will give you the trigger word or phrase that will start your writing process. That gives you seven weeks to write and rehearse. The trigger word or phrase is just to get your writing juices flowing. It is not meant to restrain the creatives. Please do not start writing until you have heard from us.
2) Each 10 minute play is to be written and performed by a team of two people. Both team members must be involved in the writing and performing; no one other than the two team members may contribute to the writing or the performance. However, you are not restricted to having only two characters.
3) Sound effects and lighting requirements must be minimal. We will only provide two chairs and a table. You must provide all other props and set pieces so keep it simple as the transition time between teams is very limited.
4) All decisions by the judges are final.
